This is why the factory design team did not use a leaper on the e type, and why I never considered adding one to my e types, or to my XKR.

in these cars, it’s a distraction, not an enhancement. Something the factory designers knew very well.

It just looks like what it is?
Something glued on the hood and looks out of place. Read the above posts about the E type. It's all about the design.

What is the difference between these and my Jag

Mine is aftermarket. Professionally installed. I am the most important person to please. If the factory didn't do it, then so not updated air filters exhaust, Flash updates, rooms and tires etc .

@sacredagent777 My prior post was tongue-in-cheek. Your car, your choice as long as you don't put 26 inch rims on it (see recent X308 post). BTW you're in the X100 sub-forum.

The angle of the nose drop off primarily. Yours looks like its jumping in front of the jag instead of ahead of it.

The distance from the front, yours looks like it’s sitting on the hood. Something my kitty cat would do to keep warm.

Oh. I see what you mean. Compared to the older endorsed Jags, mine looks like it is only jumping leaping in front of my car. The older Jags look like they are only jumping leaping in front of themselves also. Looks like the cat would get warm on these 2 also. Please I am just making innocent banter. Thank you for your interest. The large ornament that I chose sets the tone.

Oh yes those older Jag's look great with the leaper but do note that even back in the 1960's Jaguar did not put a leaper on the XKE (ever).
Ask yourself why? Again as I posted above - Design!

Some cars yes but others no.

That almost sounds like a professional fact. Like we all know, if you like it, enjoy. Anything else is professional speculation, and well intentioned (design) opinions and fodder. Thank you all for just taking a look.

I also had it professionally installed on a aluminum hood. Yikes!!

The designers of the e type had every opportunity to put a leaper way out there, but they didn’t. Professional designers are taught what makes a great design. They learn about design integration. The worst thing for a professional design is to have a feature look added on as an afterthought.

No accident that the e type was on exhibit at the MOMA in NYC.

design is not all subjective. All attributes that are included are there as part of the whole, not looking tacked on.

Wow I posted this back in Nov of 2023 after owning my car for 6 months and realized I had a leaper and almost any other xk8 or xkr I saw didn’t have one, crazy to see it brought back up and several new posts within a day. As stated before, general consensus is that it doesn’t belong as it wasn’t there from factory, and I agree…but I can’t remove mine without leaving a hole in my hood that would need to be fixed….therefor leading me on a search to obtain an xkr hood with the functional louvres which in my opinion looks better than the solid xk8 hood and in thought might help vent the engine bay of some of the heat in the hot summer months. All that being said, I thought this post was laid to rest, but if you REALLY wanna get some gears grinding…. Ask and I shall produce a pic of the “supercharged” badge someone glued to my rear end of a 4.0 naturally aspirated model, and you’ll forget all about the leaper and might even lose some sleep over! It wasn’t my doing, and I wouldn’t have done it but again, removing it and its glue would at the least leave holes and damage to the rear panel and for that reason I just left it. You can’t control what the previous owner(s) of your car did to it, but it is on the long list of “things to do to my jag” which I feel we all have, but it’s not on the top of mine lol!

Mine came with a leaper when I bought it - drilled through the hood. I was able to find an XKR hood on eBay ($600 - which was far less than paying a paint and body shop to fix the hole and repaint the hood). Mine didn't come with louvers so ordered mine from Mina Gallery.

As far as the venting heat - it really really does - even on non hot days you can see the heat rising out of the engine bay through the vents - and feel it after parking.

@AbnMike What did you do will your leaper? Put a hinge on it and it would make an awesome front door knocker.

That leaper was almost installed in the middle of the hood!
Now I get a clearer idea of what the old school remarks are describing. The same person will say to let people do what they want with their own vehicles, but will also turnaround and weigh in that it is a disgrace to tarnish what the all knowing forefathers overlooked (Jag Board Members), and if you really have to install aftermarket anything, IT BETTER BE INSTALLED PERFECTLY AND LOOK LIKE THE FACTORY DID IT. Here is once again my happiness and Jag commandment breaker.

Yes - I think they did it that way so that it didn't look like it was jumping into the ground - but jumping forward.

People on the internet will say anything - if people ask what people think they have to be ready to accept the good and the bad.

If you like the leaper who cares what anyone else likes.

Some of the F-Type guys complain that the hood vents let in water and cause problems.
Any issues with yours?

pcolapacker since you mentioned a door knocker I hope this is not considered off topic?
