Antelope dye / color- work around??
Hi Guys,
I've successfully worn through the paint on the 9 o'clock 3o'clock leather portion of my steering wheel. Its one of the steering wheels thats all wood except for the portion mentioned.
Last time I decided to try to fix this one of you posted that wonderful chart listing all color combinations and which parts are painted what color once you choose interior leather color, Oatmeal in my case.
Bad news was I couldn't find Antelope paint anywhere. Yesterday I thought back to a previous vehicle and some work I had done on it and it hit me - Home Depot has an incredibly good paint matching capability, and that little vent on far left / right top of dash is easily removed and Antelope in color!
My question is: if they can match it, what should I buy to do leather? Oil based? (It would seem so, but I'm educated guessing). Maybe someone here has experience painting or dying leather?
Thanks,
John

If you seat are the same color you should be able to cut a large enough patch to send to Leatherique for a match. If not, the aftermarket dyes are water soluble so a vinyl paint might be a good choice. But you'll have to use a clear sealer to protect it. Again, I have had good results with the Leatherique sealer.
RJ, good idea, but nò its a different color than the seats.
Steve, wow great link. Hope they will ship to NJ! I just sent them a note asking. I should probably not worry since you are here too.
