Question any ideas

2001 XKR Every so often if I'M driving along, usually highway steady speed (65mph) and I go to speed up car feels sluggish like it misses then car goes to fail safe mode. I stop, turn it off and restart it every thing is fine untill next time. This was happening once and awhile (2500 miles) now it is happening more often. Does any one have any clues what can cause this?

Have you checked for stored or pending codes?

first thing would be to try and pull codes, then post them here for better response

car is booked in next week only, thats why I was thinking to get an OBD reader. While it's there I want them to take my daytime lights off, Idon't know if you can do that with a OBD

Don't think you can kill the daytime running lights with a OBD reader. Never heard of that.

Hi.

On my -97 you can enable/disable DRL with the WDS/IDS. You find it under "dealer options".

You need a Jaguar World Diagnostic System (WDS)/Integrated Diagnostic System(IDS). Same as the dealers use.

A simple OBD reader will only read generic codes, not Jaguar specific, nor will it program any modules.

I have in a laptop and connect to the car through a Mongoose cable.

You will find more information in the "stickies" in the top of this section.

A dealer or an independent shop having this equipment should be able to help you.

In the wait period I would pull the two electrical plug connections to the throttle body and
clean them very, very good. Hose them down! Let dry and then reassemble. This has solved many issues for me.

Upper RPM to me sounds like a potentially defective secondary fuel pump. That misfiring could be detonation from lack of fuel. You can jump pins 30 and 87 for your super charger fuel pump relay and listen for a whine type noise coming from inside the fuel tank while the ignition key is out of the car. This isn't to say that you may have a bad ignition coil or even a bad spot in the TPS from the throttle body. I'm just throwing out possibilities. First would be engine codes then try above next.
