Default Any Tip on selling AJ26-V8 Engine?

Hello all,

As some of you may know, I am getting rid of a working engine from my 97' xk8.
I've taken some photos but not sure how to attract buyer to purchase the engine...

So far:
Got photos
Odometer readings
video when it was working

Any tips?

If I was looking for an AJ26, me personally, I'd want the engine reassembled along with the throttle body. I can understand the valve cover being off for the photo though....

A partly disassembled engine would immediately raise my suspicions of damage:

1. overheating
2. tensioner failure
3. nikasil bore wear

These are the three main reason any potential purchaser would be looking for a replacement engine so you need to remove those doubts about condition.

There is likely to be limited interest in Japan although anyone there with an XK8 and engine failure would soon become your new best friend. Determining shipping costs to the major potential markets of Australia/USA will indicate if looking further afield for a buyer is viable. Europe is probably not worthwhile as engines are not difficult to obtain in the UK.

Lastly, and most important - don't even think of advertising it in the tech forum. The Classifieds PRIVATE For Sale / Trade or Buy Classifieds - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum is the place.

Thanks for the tips and dont worry. I am not planning to sell it on the forum. (I'm not expecting big money from this at all.)

I just want to get rid of it, is the idea and therefore I just need to attract someone to buy it in japan.

I guess I need to assemble them...

I am converting the car to an EV vehicle.
As for the Engine, Yes, I've given it a quick clean so it can be sold for something.

Agree with others, get it assembled for presentation.

You should list it on the forum for sale along with the Video and a link to your conversion thread so potential buyers know more about the project, why you are selling and the condition of the engine.

Many people watch these forums for parts, you never know and it's a free listing.

Craigslist is very popular also. Might take awhile but someone at some time will do a search and see your adds.

Looks Great......I wish I had thought about putting one of these engines into an MGB pro street project I built for a guy a couple of summers ago. They really are handsome lumps.....Best of luck.......Mike

That looks much better.

You should plug or tape over all openings to keep dust and dirt out.
