I can't wait to see the finished product. So how much is this going to cost you?

Phil, what about this on my boot; what is it?

I sent a this pic to my bro. He can't tell too much from the photo. He asked is it under the clear coat? Have you tried the black wax with the little wax stick? If it fills it in and goes away after final buffing, it's a topical scuff. If it doesn't go away at all, then it's probably early signs of clear coat issues. Again, hard to be sure from the photo. But it doesn't look like my issue so it's probably isolated to the boot lid. Not to $$ to fix. But do it right he says and have it taken down to primer and repaint. He also suggests you ask painter to have the paint matched, don't use factory code as our paints have faded, even black! I found out when I had the arden kit installed. The factory black code was darker than the faded paint on the car.

Can I say one thing?
A W E S O M E! Color!!!
I almost went espresso black metallic (think dark chocolate metallic) but I just LOVE my black car. And in the sun, that color looked too brown. And when I saw a new Ferrari in the Nero Daytona black metallic, I was sold! I think we should show them side by side!
Was pm about red side leapers? I accidentally deleted all my pm's! Ugh. And yes, I have them.

If you would be interested in selling the red side leapers, shoot me a price. Otherwise I'm off to browse eBay...

Well, the paint and clear coat alone is about 1000.00
Body work has changed due to the issues but he wants to use my car for a few promotions so he's sticking with the 3000.00 total, paint and all.
He's also doing my suspension work and installing my Mina gallery lowering springs for a trade for jewelry for his wife for Xmas.
I sold a miata to pay for it and have a 1000.00 cushion from sale for any unknowns. If I have it left, I'm getting custom leather seat skins with black alcantara inserts to match doors.
Then I'm DONE!!
Famous last words.
My XF is feeling neglected. I'm really wanting that new XFR-S obnoxious rear spoiler!! Everybody hates it so I want it!! Lol

I found this xk8 on another site but decided I might get tired of the true brown. And it's becoming a really trend color now and will probably go out of fashion like the seafoam green and ice blues of the past.
But DAMN I like this color!!

Uh, I think it is the clear coat. It certainly feels rough to the touch, not smooth like the healthy areas of paint.

In any case, I expect to be painting the car by the time I'm halfway through med school. So, by then, I hope to have enough saved for a full paint job done right.

I'm considering selling my Fender Strat to get started on my savings, although I don't know how much it'd go for. I rarely ever play it anymore.

If you haven't tried the black magic wax from autozone, you should. It has a crayon like wax stick on the side. Looks like black lipstick. I color my scratches with the stick, then wax, then really use elbow grease and buff all off. You'll be blown away how the scratches go away!! Wear gloves as it stains your hands!!

Ok then, I guess I'll get on that by Thanksgiving.

Had a black Jeep Cherokee back in the late 80s / early 90s. Learned my lesson big-time. No more black vehicles in our household ever again. Black is far too susceptible to cracking/crazing/fading/swirling/peeling etc. etc. etc....

That experience converted me to white exteriors. So fade-resistant, easy to care for, and holds up far better and longer than any other color regardless of manufacturer. Since the black Jeep, we've had a white Acura Legend, a white Chevy S-10 pick-up, a white Jeep Grand Cherokee, a white Dodge Durango, a white Dodge Ram, a white Lexus RX300, a white Lexus RX330, and now my wife's white XK8....

If you want ease of care and the best longevity, stick with white exteriors....

Dark colors absorb Ultraviolet rays that interfere with the chemical composition makeup, of the clear coat to base coats adhezure.

Jaguar used a whole lot coats of clear, aggravating the problem. The Jaguar Body shop explained that to me for their vehicles.

Therefore a revised clear-coat is now being used, that offers outstanding UV protection. Why not a recall?,

Jaguar don't confess to many things, don't want to pay up and be honest.

Phil - looks like a good color choice - can't wait to see the finished product. I have no crazing on mine (sapphire blue) but the clear coat on the side view mirrors is bubbling off - so will take care of in the spring.
