.....and they will leave that lien in place until they feel like paying (if ever) I am guessing your attorney is about $300-$350/hr?

I appreciate your frustration, and I have not had any experience with ASI but this looks like good money after bad.

If you put it on a credit card, you should be able to dispute, no?

I can see by your post that you are taking it very personal, it just isn't worth the $$ and aggravation from where I stand- but it's not my money we are talking about here. When two parties in a dispute square off, it usually doesn't end well, except for....the attorneys.

I wish you the best result, may it be money or some level of satisfaction.

When a customer gets under the skin of someone at a small business, the owner
has to take a deep breath and ask "what would I do under normal circumstances".

If you are not sure you have talked to the owner, take a look at the page
below and skip down to the "admin registrant" contact information:

AutoEcu.com WHOIS, DNS, & Domain Info - DomainTools

Almost all small business will have that position filled by the owner as a
matter of safety so that the domain is not at risk of highjacking.

Take a deep breath, then be nice, be clear and only ask for what is fair.

Revenge is not on the agenda.

If what he's saying in true, in small claims court he'll be fine and get his money back plus the attorney's fees.

He just have to show just one correspondence that his refund is being processed and it's over. Or just
Cell phone/email proof of communications.

I spoke to a local indy,PLEASE CHECK THIS NEW FINDING OUT

He said" The ecm will kick a throttle body off the system before you even start the car and know what happened,in milliseconds, hard reset or not."

"ASI sends outs a lot throttle bodies with the TPS advanced to the max throw out or retarded position and there should be a sticker warning you of this.
Once you do a hard reset and plug it in, the ecm will see this, revert to fail safe, before you even turn the key to start the car and not run the car at all or incorrectly or may so "incompatible part installed"
To remedy, this, the new unit must have the TPS angle adjusted, through use of a scanner, in order to start some cars. This is something a hard reset will not work,we encounter this problem quite often"

That sent me the chills, I hope I never have to go through this.

Default Angle adjustment?

This whole thing about setting the TPS angle is news to me. I have a 2000 MY throttle body.

I removed the TPS and sent it to ASI for a free (not under warranty) re-epoxy. When I got it back I simply reinstalled it according to the witness mark I'd made earlier. I adjusted it a bit after that - 10 minutes work - by rotating it through its adjustment range until the car started nicely. (I also replaced the weak locking screws with some better ones and star washers.)

What's the scan tool do exactly? Are some TB's different than mine?

Spurlee, WOW! I would like to have seen the video of that. Just to think we can do like we did years ago with the timing, turning the distributor until it smoothed out. If I tried that on the Jaguar, I could go ahead and call the tow truck, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't give it a go.
Anyway to get some pictures of your procedure, as I and many don't have a clue were the adjustment is.

Thanks, Wayne

As ASI said they would refund that is what they should do. Pay up!

No other discussion about rights and wrongs or correct adjustments etc needed. That is only required for a thread asking how to do the job.

That's pretty much how I did it, trial and error. There's really no other way to adjust it seeing as how it is such a simple device. At least the one on my 2000 XK8 is.

ASI replied to my BBB complaint, but they state my refund has been declined and they are sending me another TB.

I just hope they test this one, because if I get another bad TB, I am going to go ballistic.

I have to assume that you paid by credit card. What about challenging the charge through them? I dont think that you need two throttle bodies...

Interesting thing about the throttle angle. Never heard of that until this thread, and I have probably changed a dozen throttle bodies. Good to know.

This is basically what happened to me.

Firstly, I would like to say that ASI were great to deal with, albeit a bit slow to reply to emails, however given the 12 hour time difference I can't blame them for that.

I purchased a rebuilt throttle body assembly from ASI, rather than sending mine off to be rebuilt. When it arrived, the TPS sensor was adjusted all the way to the left, and when fitted the car immediately went back to failsafe mode.
With the help of this thread https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...acement-77560/ a multimeter, and my old throttle body, I was able to measure the resistance at closed and WOT on the pins on my old unit, loosen the screws on the new unit and rotate it clockwise until the readings were the same. Screws tightened, throttle body installed, and it's been absolutely perfect ever since.

I can't remember the exact resistance values, but I recall them being VERY close to the ones in the thread mentioned above.

FYI my car is a 2000 MY with the AJ27, and these results may not work with the older AJ26.

:edit: found the values, they're on the second page of the thread:
This is for Denso part number198500-3250

Pins 1-4 = 2.24KΩ
Pins 1-2 Closed = 1.03KΩ
Pins 1-2 WOT = 2.4KΩ
Pins 1-3 Closed = 0.12KΩ
Pins 1-3 WOT = 2.4KΩ

Maybe give these figures to your mechanic and get him to try again?
