The door locking mechanism on my 2002 XKR stopped working. The car attempts to lock the doors when the lock button on the remote is pressed. You can hear it click; however, the doors don't lock and can be opened with the security alarm going off. I put new batteries in the remote. Any ideas on what is causing this problem?

 

You might get lucky and resolve the issue by just cleaning the mechanism and using some silicone based lubricant on it.

The issue is almost always in the mechanism, not the remote.
