Default Auto Locking Gremlins

Normally, after starting the car and engaging a gear, both doors will automatically lock and I believe this is normal operating procedure. But I noticed that this does NOT happen 100% of the time. Sometimes nothing will happen if I engage a gear. This seems to have something to do with whether or not I had a passenger on the previous drive. The "problem" generally goes away after turning the car off and then re-starting. I suspect the passenger opening the door to get out does something to the sequence and then it takes another start/stop to synchronize everything again. In fact, it seems like most of the electrical system quirks I have had on rare occasions go away once the car is re-started.

Anyone else have this weird door-lock behavior?

Doug

Let us know what you find. This seems to be a new opportunity. If I were to guess I would say Battery or a slow operating door latch.

as far as I know, mine locks EVERY single time, but then again, I don't get many passengers...I'll try to pay attention the next time, especially after someone uses the passenger door.

Mine seems to work every time - and I have a passenger at least once a week. DaleD

After thinking about it they do not lock until the shifter is moved into gear. You can also unlock the passenger door by unlocking the drivers handle and the other unlocks. A little something to think about.

Yes I have this in mine occasionally - putting the gearstick back into P does not unlock the doors, but a light pull on the drivers side unlock them. I also have a slight problem with the driver's window whereby it will only drop for entry/exit if a handle is pulled (and kept pulled). A new lift-let go-shut-window pops up maneuver has been developed.

I think the two might be related to sensors as my driver's door has definitely been taken apart at one stage - will report back after the weekend.

When I have these types of locking/unlocking quirks it seems more often to affect the passenger's door. When this happens, while putting the car into gear I can hear a noise like something cycling at the passenger latch but the handle does not actually lock. However, the problem fixes itself by the next time I start the car. Perhaps something gets out of sync and then corrects itself.

door latch (with the switch) could be failing. If you haven't heard me say it before, both sides were replaced by the dealer before I even bought the car.

You might want to try the reboot/reset procedure. Disconnect the pos battery cable. After a few seconds touch it to the negative side. Reattach the pos cable to the battery and reset the windows. Your tranny and other systems will have to go for a while to reset its self.
