Default auto windshield wipers

I usually leave my windshield wiper switch in the auto position but sometimes when I hit a bump they give a single wipe. Bit annoying, anyone know why? Is it a common thing?
Thanks

Most likely the sensor is separating from the glass. Mine did it. Easy fix.

BTW - I just typed into the search box "wipers activating on bumps".

Other suspect area is the stalk. Reputedly, there are solder joints in there that can become undone and cause random wipes. My understanding of the logic is that the automatic rain sensor has a separate control module and when rain is detected, the manual wipe is simulated by the control module at the stalk. It is not a nice big integrated all-in-one system. So, make sure you check the stalk by putting light pressure on it, etc to help you figure out if there is a bad connection in there. Unfortunately, this stalk is not all that easy to get to as the steering wheel and airbag have to be dealt with.

Best of luck, keep us posted.

Because for a windshield dry, dusty sandpaper wipers will take their toll when dragged across the glass. My wife's Honda Pilot has the proof.

There is a completely 'off' position that this owner uses during the dry months.

Been meaning to check the sensor also.
