Default Bad ECM ???

The past 3 weeks I been trouble shooting and reading many threads for my 2001 XK8 (109K miles) error codes P0300, P0302, P0303, P0304, P1316, PO353, P1111. With all the misfires I replaced the plugs didn't help. I moved the coils from one bank to the other same codes. I replaced the fuel injectors didn't help, the fuel pressure is good. I was going to test the cam position sensor, but I had both disconnected I decided to try to start the engine and it started. I thought if the cps is unhooked the engine wouldn't start. Before I go any further I'm asking for any suggestions. Timing, ECM, other sensors ???

How old is your battery and does it hold a charge?

Is it idling rough? If so, it the cam sprocket on one bank could have jumped a tooth, especially if the secondary tensioners are not upgraded.

Yes she idles rough. I replaced the secondary tensioners 4 years ago. If it jumped a tooth could you check the timing.

Just pull the cam covers and rotate clockwise from the front with 24mm socket until the flats on the cams line up. If they don't, the timing is off.

I took both cam covers off and all cams are level on the flat part. All the chains are snug. It was nice to see how clean everything was.

What I posted at first I said I disconnected both cpm and the engine started. After I took the valve cover I found out they were CAM CAMSHAFT VALVE TIMING SOLENOID SENSOR. I found where the cps are. Could the cps be bad?

Yes it could. A symptom of a bad cps is hard starting, but once it starts it runs okay. This doesn't seem to be your problem.

I did test the OHMs on the knock and cam position sensors and they all pass. Why is the problem on one bank?

If it were a AJ26 I'd say it was the ignition module for that bank, but yours should be a AJ27 and the ECM controls it. I don't think you could get the coils on the wrong cylinders, but a bad connection to the ECM like a bent pin could be at fault.

It might be a good idea to disconnect the ECM cable and look for corroded or bent pins. Disconnect the neg battery cable at the battery first and touch it to the pos. terminal to discharge the capacitors.

I tried that with no success. The more I think about it is more of a fuel problem?

I'm not sure why you suspect a fuel problem if you replaced the injectors and the pressure is good.

because the problem is on the right bank. The last 3 cyl. have a misfire. It is at the end of the fuel rail

brain2001:
Although my car is a 2005, see my thread just above yours under "Restrictive Performance".
Your problem is just like mine, except my misfire started out on #3 cly, but changed to #5 for some reason.
I'm removing my ECM at this time and sending it off for repair--if that's what it is.

Cheers

The face that you only have 3 of 4 cylinders misfiring and you changed the plugs and swapped the coil packs from side to another and you had replaced the fuel injectors I would be looking at the ECM. However, I would check the battery for proper voltage 12.2v minimum and the fuel pressure. I know if it were either one you should have the problem on the other side but it would be good to check it anyway. As for the chains and tensioners you should check the flats to be sure they line up on both sides. If all of that is good then pull the ECM and have it checked. ASI has a good reputation on making repairs to them.

Gus I have checked the battery, fuel pressure, cam timing all is good. I replaced injector, plugs, cps. When I test drive her she still idles rough but moving down the road she runs fine. I can step on it she takes off, after 4 or 6 time of that then I will get a RP. At different speeds she runs rough also. Who, where and how much $ ASI

I believe testing is still about $55. Give them a call.
