Battery charging
I don't drive my car nearly as much as I used to. I'm lucky to put 1,000 miles a year on it anymore. After experiencing the usual battery issues I installed an electric service panel above the CD changer on the right side of the trunk. Great location, just above the battery, easy to install. I bought a trickle charger from Harbor Freight, cut off the battery terminal clips and added a 12 volt plug. I plug the charger into the panel and it maintains the battery at 12.9 to 13.0 volts. I have not had a battery related problem since I did this and the panel is a great way to monitor charging voltage and battery voltage as well as alternator output when I feel like checking it. I'm as pleased by the way it looks as I am by the way it works.
If I was unable to run an electrical cord to the car that would not be good.

I keep my x350 on charge using a trickle charger into the trunk/boot, is it safe to connect it then shut the trunk so that I can lock the car when not in use? My only concern about this is whether gas released from the battery could build up in the trunk/boot if I shut it with the charger connected?
Is my concern unfounded?
Is it better to connect the changer under the bonnet/hood instead?

If there were a “gas buildup” it wouldn’t matter if the charger was hooked up via the trunk or via the engine bay; the trunk lid would be closed in either case, right ??
But as already mentioned, unless the battery is over charged, there is no danger of vapors being vented . In any case, all the battery tenders that I know of have circuitry that precludes overcharging.
I’ve been charging / tending my battery whenever the car sits overnight or longer for 4 years now via the trunk and there have been zero issues with the trunk seal being too tight or being damaged in any way by having the battery tender lead exiting via the trunk seal.

I use a cutoff switch like Stumpy and leave a small board on the trunk lock so the trunk lid doesn't engage the lock when the power is switched off. Never had any problem with the radio or any other components and have been doing this for several years.
Mr. Ripple,
Sorry but after reading though all this BS, I've decided that you shouldn't have an X-100.....If you truly are Wheel Chair bound, I would ask you where do you plan to store your Wheel Chair while out Driving the Jag? Also, how do you plan to get in and out of the Jag to start with? I have a Cane that I have to use most of the time and I have a heck of a time getting it into the passenger seat before I try to get in.....Getting out is not much easier either.......It's along way down there getting-in but it's truly a long way up getting out and I'm not Wheel Chair bound!
This Car is not for you my Friend....Forget about the Battery and the Charger...That is the least of your worries......

I'm not sure why it took me so long to read your reply.
My X100 is easy enough for me to get in and out of (my arms are reasonably strong).
Unfortunately the driver's seat doesn't fold back flat, that's the reason I can't get my wheelchair into Her. All the other two-door cars I have had (including my XJS) were able to fold their seats backwards far further.
You live, you learn.
I'm certainly having great fun with Her!
Thanks
