Default RE: Battery Drain XK8

I would first attempt to locate the circuit(s) which are the primary source of the battery drain. Disconnect the positive lead and put an ammeteracross the circuit. Register the the current being drawn with the key out and everything shut down. Then start pulling fuses whilesomeone else is watching theammeter for a major change in the readings.

The owners Maintenance Manual Pages 42-48 lists the fuses, their locatations, the correlated electricaldevices. Start with any 'suspect' items; and proceed fromthere. You will probably find one or two circuits that aresuspect. At this point you at least have a general idea of where the problems are located; and you can determine what types of troubleshooting you need to perform next.

This type of fault search usually takes some timeand is not aquick fix. However,I would at least attempt to locate a drain myselfprior to turning the car over to an auto electric shop. Sending the car to adealership would be my last resort because of their high hourly labor rates and the excessivetime required to locate these types of problems. gordo

just a question.. does your car have auto wipers? and is it always set to auto?
if yes then there is a loop you need to get installed .. causes a drain

It sounds more like a worn out ignition or one where when you turn off the car, the internals are not going to the off position but is staying at the accessory position which is why your radio stays on. You might check that out first, it may be as simple as lubricating that cylinder.

Default dead battery XK8

I understand that the anti-theft system may be responsible for the battery drain. Can that be disconnected (such as by pulling its fuse) and will that have other consequences?
