Hi all.
Started getting the message Battery not charging and a bright red light on the 'voltmeter' and dash. It comes and goes so either something loose or something overheating and cooling. Before I lose £200 on an alternator any other suggestions?

Just to start, unless you have already done this, follow every wire leading away from the alternator, and tighten anything that is loose. You could also remove the alternator and give it a shake to see if anything is loose and rattling in there. I had one go bad and when I gave it a good shake it sounded like I was shaking half a can of screws.....
