Smile Beep when locking car

On my 2000 XK8 there is no neat little chirp when I lock my car like there is on the X300. Has anyone done the work to install such a neat chirp on their XK? I would sure like to do that. And also have it turn on the interior lights and parking lights when unlocking.

Check your owners manual to see if that feature is available on your car. If it is it might need turned on in personalize settings.

Default Chirp

FYI--I have a 2000 XKR and it "chirps" when I use the remote to lock the doors.

Unlock: chirps twice and front, side, and rear signal lights flash twice. Interior lights go on.
Lock: chirps once and front, side and rear signal lights flash once.

I think the little valet man that turns on your inside lights and the little bird that does the chirping have both decided to give up the ghost and move to DC. Seems like valets are the new thing there and the CIA may have shot their last little bird. ;-))

Could be a simple programming reset that a dealership must do. Call one and ask....

It has been a while since I was poking around in the dealer options but I believe this is something that can be set with SDD

If memory serves, there is also a tiny speaker somewhere that sounds the chirp. (seems logical) Might be worth a look.

Here in the UK the lock/unlock chirps are turned off only the indicator lights flash.
But I do get a single long chirp if I deadlock the doors by pressing the lock button twice within 3 seconds. Worth trying to find out if you get any chirp at all.

As Jon89 and ccfulton said it is possible for the dealer to enable or disable it

Mine sounds like someone squeezing a chipmunk a bit too tightly. More of a squeak than a chirp.

That's a perfect description! We joke about how puny her XK8's chirp/squeak is. She says it adds a bit of femininity to the car....

U.S. cars do not have the deadlock feature.

My car is in storage now but, as I recall, I get a different variation:

When I lock the Car with the Fob there is no Chirp, just the sound of the Lock Mechanism.

If I subsequently press the Fob Lock Button (with the Car already locked) there is a short Chirp.

The same with the UnLock, First Button push produces action, second push produces Chirp.

My 2001 XKR chirps once when locked and twice when unlocked and lights on outside of car IE. Headlights and rear brake lights also blink at same time as chirps.

Chirps are sooo much better then horn honk.
Never fails, someone locks their car and horn honks, I look around to see if someone did something wrong or trying to get my attention or something.

horn honking should be illegal!! LOL

Happy Holidays and
Happy Motoring...

I guess I'm not as observant as the others on this thread but I can confirm both chirps and light flashes when locking and unlocking with the fob. I can't remember how many chirps for these actions.

That said, I'd also be interested in learning what options can be set. My X-Type has one touch up and down windows whereas my XKR has only one touch down windows. I'd love it if I could get one touch up windows on my XKR.

This has been posted a few times. I don't know if someone else (or me) posted this from a student guide.

Hey Bob, thanks for the information. This states that one touch window is something available on X100s. What is needed to turn this on? Is this something that you can do? Thanks,

Mark
