Default Best tool / kit for DIY suspension bushings?

Hello guys,

I'd like to have the ability to remove and replace my suspension bushings...all of them...in my own little shop. My tool collection has grown quite a bit, but I don't have any tools or kits designed for pressing in / out the bushings on our suspension systems.

Does anyone have any recommendations for suspension press tools or kits? I'm sure there are many of us who could benefit from doing these particular jobs ourselves.

Funny, I was just looking into getting such a kit myself. This is the best deal I have found so far, from England:

Thanks Azeteg,

That kit says that it's "universal"...sometimes that can mean it works well across many applications, and sometimes it means that it doesn't work well for ANY application! This one might be good, though...who knows.

Any of our techs care to tell us what suspension bushing tools they use or recommend?

The bushings in the Jag will just laugh at that kit. You will need a 10 ton or > press. Search the forum and there are a bunch of posts. To change mine I pressed out the center and the rubber and then cut a notch in the outer sleeve to split it. Once split it can be folded in with a cold chisel to remove. Installing the new ones is much easier than getting the old ones out.

A press is not needed but will make the job much quicker.

I did all my upper and lower front bushes and ball joints with this kit.

I've never needed anything special for replacing front suspension bushes but have recently replaced an upper wishbone ball joint and a 15 ton press was required to free the old one. I'm talking here about replacing the ball joint - not disconnecting it.

I'm going to buy a press next time, but at least I do have a great selection of cups.

Thanks guys...

Do any of you have a web link where I could look at a suitable press (10 ton or more) and learn a thing or two? I've googled a bit but not sure if I'm looking at the right things.

Thanks RaceDiagnostics for posting the link for the smaller kit. I'll check that one out.

Graham, any specifics about the kit you normally use?

EDIT: OK, I've found a few 12 and 20 ton presses that seem to be popular...a Harbor freight model in particular. Not sure if I have the floor space for something like that, although they are inexpensive. Hmmm....

I didn't buy one because I just don't have the floor space either, but perhaps one of the bench versions....
