Default Better Water Temp Sensor

Does anyone know if a better, more accurate water temp sensor is available from an after market company?

I see you have a '97 XK8. This is the group for '07 and later XK's. One of the moderators may move your post to he correct section.

In any event, my company makes an upgrade for the water and oil temperature gauges for your '97. See XK8 / XKR / XJ RealGauge - TheJagWrangler

I use a ScanGauge, which I have velcroed to the pad at the top of the steering column. The gauge plugs into the OBDII port, and has many functions besides water temp: battery voltage, fuel pressure, intake air temp., etc. It is also a code reader/reset instrument.

I just posted some pictures for my OBD II connected Samsung phone displaying various engine parameters, water temp included. Works great and costs next to nothing if you have an Android phone. Scroll down the page to find the post with pictures.

On the plus side RealGauge has the advantage of using the factory gauges, and can also do oil pressure, which none of the OBDII equipment can. It also has an audible alarm to give you notice of trouble if you are not paying attention to the gauges.

On the minus side it is a more costly option, requires installation, does not have OBDII features, and of course only applies to the steel body 2006 and earlier X100 models..

Big fan of the RealGauge. So reassuring to know it is always giving me an honest picture of the water temp. Plus, it was an easy install.

Another +1 from a RealGauge fan. Worth every penny and an easy install.

I'll also support the recommendation of real gauge.

I installed mine last weekend. The kit and instructions were faultless.

I am highly impressed at the level of integration and thought that has gone into this kit.

If you want a scanner that works with an android phone search 'ELM327 Bluetooth' on ebay. Many are available for under $20. Download the app 'Torque' to use it with your Android.

RealGauge is a completely different product which is installed in your car to make your gauges read accurately (XK8 / XKR / XJ RealGauge - TheJagWrangler).
