How do you install this?

I can't seem to get my gear knob off (XKR) it just turns freely. Do I need to pull the nut (anyone know if its a screw or a hex or torx)? Also, Do I need to pull the surround?

I ordered. please can you tell if there are difficulties in the assembly? you have to make 2 holes? as you have to do to remove the shift knob in Leather-Alluminium R performance?

 

Installed. Been driving around with this interior that now looks gorgeous. I've always thought this was the weakest part of this interior, now it has more Jaguarness

 

Quick tip: So that it looks as factory perfect as possible, all the lines need to line up flush. I placed a few washers under the center console wood panel to bring it up level. If you don't do, it will look like it's sitting on top of the bezel, not an integrated factory part. Details, make all the difference

My knob came right off with some twisting, pretty easy

 

So do you remove the black plastic standard shift piece and replace with this or does this go over the existing?

Goes on top, that's why it ends up slightly raised. But when you put a washer or two under the wood panel, it will be nice and flush.

I was going to do a complete how-to, but my shifter area was cracked in 6 places. I had to first glue it all back together before I could even start this mod.

 

Goes on top? What does it screw into (looks like you have hex bolts in it)?

I was going to disassemble the piece are remove the old PRND plate.

I wonder if the original plastic shift piece can be taken off, or is it somehow glued down?

Yes, I'm sure it can be taken off--it's got two screws holding it down from the underside. In order to get to them, you would have to remove the entire assembly.

 

Got mine yesterday.
If you try and remove the old top plate it cracks and breaks. Sigh. Should have asked first.

Yes there are two central screws underneath in line with where the numbers are above.

It is not possible to unplug the circuit board with the lights on at the gear change location. So the new one has to go on over the top of the old one.

You have to drill two holes. Fortunately there are two plastic guides under the old plate that show you exactly where to drill.

Happy to say it looks gorgeous.

I have ordered a replacement black plastic one in case I have to return the car to stock.
