Default Bilstein R-Performance Shocks – Part Number Discrepancy and Search

Hi All,

I am working on compiling suspension components for my 2001 XKR Coupe with adaptive R - performance shocks.

I’ve noticed a difference in the part numbers listed for the front electronic shocks on Jaguar XKR models of my year:
  • MXD2140AA – R-Performance Adaptive
  • MJB2140EB – Non-R-Performance Adaptive (Bilstein Part Number: 20-250256)
When searching the Bilstein website, both come up as Bilstein Part Number: 20-250256. I assume the R-Performance version is no longer produced, but I’m specifically trying to source new old stock for the R-Performance version. Does anyone have the correct Bilstein part number to help me track this down?

Thank you!

Adamesh, SNG and Moss sell the MXD R-performance shocks. I would imagine they are just stiffer then the standard adaptive shocks. No idea if they are still in production but I would think they will be just not in constant production. Probably make batches and switch tooling to something else until stock dries up and switch back to make another batch again.

I think I might have just answered my own question. Based on information from other sources, here’s the breakdown I believe is accurate. I'm still not sure why they’re all labeled as 'touring,' though.
  • Front MXD2140AA – Bilstein Touring BIL20250256 (with Electronic Suspension) -> R-Performance Adaptive
  • Front MJB2140EB – Bilstein Touring 20070540 (with Electronic Suspension) -> Non R-Performance Adaptive
  • Front MJA2140DJ – Bilstein Touring 24067263 (without Electronic Suspension)

l believe all 'R' performance parts carry the MXD prefix. I discovered some years ago that the originals on my own car however carry a part number one digit out.

Does anyone know if the following information is correct? Jaguar PN vs Bilstein PN?

It appears that the early adaptive (non-R-Performance) shocks for the X100 XKR have been discontinued, and now the only available replacement for vehicles with adaptive dynamics is the R-Performance version. Can anyone confirm this?

Front Suspension:

(Up to 2002 – Adaptive)
  • MXD2140AA – Bilstein 20250256 (XKR / R-Performance)
  • MJB2140EB – Bilstein 20070540 (XK8 / Non R-Performance)
(Up to 2002 – Non-Adaptive)
  • MJA2140DJ – Bilstein 24067263
(Up to 2006 – Adaptive)
  • MXD2140AB – Bilstein 20070816 (XKR / R-Performance)
  • MJB2140EC – Bilstein 20070830 (XK8 / Non R-Performance)
(Up to 2006 – Non-Adaptive)
  • MJA2140DJ – Bilstein 24067263

Rear Suspension (All Years):

Adaptive:
  • MXD3540AC – Bilstein 20070823 (XKR / R-Performance)
  • MJB3540EC – Bilstein 20070847 (XK8 / Non R-Performance)
Non-Adaptive:
  • MJA3540DE – Bilstein 24067270
If anyone has insights or can confirm whether the standard adaptive shocks have been fully discontinued, I’d appreciate it!

Is that info copied from SNG Barrett’s ?

If not, give them a call. Often their customer service representative answering the phone can provide information that their web site catalog does not cover very well.

Are the Bilstein shocks any good? I need to replace my OEM shocks on my 2000 XK8 convertible base model. The Bilstein shocks seem to be the only option aside pricey OEM. I do not need the R package or adaptive shocks.
