Default bleeding capacitor/ecm

fellas I've been getting a restricted performance on & off while driving on the highway for some time now. I've addressed every dtc that I've gotten & it corrected the issues from those dtc's. but the restricted performance cycle still persist. Now I'm at the place where I have a P0406 after changing my egr which wass producing a dtc P0405.The engine stalls out if I don't hold the accelerator pedal down while holding the brake at red lights. Now I'm getting DTC 1368 which leads to P0352,353,355,358. I'm thinking of sending my ecm off for repair because I think I found the issue inside. Can anyone tell me if the smeared black stuff toward the top of the pic is what the bleeding cap in the ecm looks like & if I'm on the right track.

Yes, that does not look healthy.
The larger capacitors will normally split at the cross on the top, when over heated/pressurised, and release their contents.
The smaller capacitors, like the one in your picture, will leak from the lead end, sometimes even pushing the rubber sealing bung from the case.

The leakage can be a quite corrosive/nasty substance and will need cleaning off carefully.
THe printed circuit tracks are coated with a varnish, but that does not stop them from being attacked and weakened, even open circuited.
The leakage can also damage other components/connecting leads.

So it really needs a professional cleaning and assessment of any damage. Followed by the replacement of that capacitor and any other damaged components/circuitry. Also they should assess the other capacitors and replace as necessary.

Hi Konshu,

What you have is 1 of the top problems with bad ECUs.

But it seems that it isn't severe to the point of completely stopping the car.

A repair could potentially fix all of your intermittent running issues.

Let me know.
