Bonnet won't open

After reading the post I recalled the time I had with my 93 xj-s with the hood and I did not want to deal with it again. So I wanted to look and this is my suggestion for the xk. I looked at mine and found three possible causes a broken latch, cable or release lever. The cable and latch are a possibility but I would look at the release lever first. Both cables from both latches go directly to it. If the lever is not the case pulling the fender liner and go in where the drain pipe is and just above will be the latch. At that point you will need to be creative on how to make the latch work. Applying a little back and forth pressure as you are trying to release the latch will help. Please let us know what you find. My best guess is that it is a broken release LEVER.
I hope this helps!

Do NOT do this!!!
From eHOw: http://www.ehow.com/how_5239610_open...correctly.html
How to Open Your Car's Hood When The Interior Release Is Not Functioning Correctly
Instructions
Things You'll Need:
* A short handled shovel, or any suitable lever-like object possessing an end thin enough to fit in the crack beneath the front of car's hood.
* A plastic bag.
* A brick, or any suitable weighty object.
1.
Step 1
Place a plastic bag over the business end of the shovel. This is to protect the car's finish. Insert the shovel in the crack beneath the front of the hood. If the shovel is long enough, there may be no additional preparation necessary, and pulling the interior release lever will pop the hood. If you're using a shorter or lighter shovel or other lever, go to step 2.
2.
Step 2
In the case of a short handled spade, just place a brick or other weighty object on the handle. Pull the interior hood lever and presto! The hood should pop up as normal.
3.
Step 3
If at first you don't succeed, use a longer lever, or more weight. Personally, I have found a regular shovel to be effective all by itself. I suggest the shorter, handled variety along with a brick for ease of transport.

Dieing to see those 3 image files
Guys I've got the same problem (passengers latch wont open) and it occured right after my throtle cable broke (same day same time can you believe it) and I am dieing to see those pics so I get in there with a drill. Please please please! If I understand the rules 10 posts and 3 days is going to seem like forever. I'm getting around driving my old 928 without air in the middle of a Texas summer. Somebody take pity.

Plus one for a broken cable or opening lever
The plastic lever inside the cabin pulls both cables at once. One side snapped on mine so one cable was being pulled but the other one wasn't. I was able to grab the nipple on the end of the offending side cable with Mole/vice grips and pull it to release the catch.
I repaired the lever with superglue but thought better of it and ordered a new one.
Good luck
