My boot button has stopped working but can be opened with the fob. I have soldered the wires a while ago where they break on the boot hinge but if the fob opens the boot there must be power going to the release mechanism ,or is that not necessarily the case.

 

There will be, but I suspect you have either a bad ground, or a wire break between the button and the security module as it's the latter that fires the release mech.

Just went through this a couple of months ago and it was the body-to-boot harness that apparently had a broken wire (local shop fixed it).
