Default Boot cover for 2000 XK8 conv

The boot cover for my XK8 has come off the front pegs a couple of times while driving. The snaps that hold it on don't seem to "snap into place" they can be pulled off fairly easy. Is that normal?

Thanks for help!
G

My car has pins, instead of snaps, and they need to be manually released, with a button top. I am sure a trim shop can replace them for you, if your's are worn out. You may just need to replace the pins.....Good Luck.....Mike

Default Boot Cover 2000 XK*

Thanks for the reply, Yes, I have the Pins also. It seem like the connector that snaps onto the pins does not hold as securely as I would think. They can be pulled off without pulling up on the release button. Could be worn out, although it is a near new boot cover that was only used once or twice and left in the garage.

I'm thinking about adding a safety strap to prevent it from flying off, I've already dinged the trunk with the snap connector while driving down the highway!

G, I had this once too. I found a seller of replacement female snaps, bought one used they lent me and had a firm connection in 10 minutes.

I don't recall who I dealt with, I think they advertise that they make replacement boot covers (good way to search). I felt like I was trying to find 110 octane leaded gasoline (they are tough to track down). These were not expensive at all just hard to find.

I bet these are used on boats all the time. Let me know if you want me to search my Gmail from a few years ago to try and get you a lead.

G, I had some time so I tried to find that for you, no luck.

Do a search on Canvas tops - boats, Jaguar Toneau cover, Jaguar boot cover, that kind of thing. I remember Jag Bits sells replacement boot covers, maybe they have the part.

As I typed this I thought of boats - canvas top hardware. Looks like plenty of hits: http://www.googleadservices.com/page...6network%253Dg

I copied on link (above) for the snaps. If they fit you just found one for under $25.

To help the situation out, I also drilled and installed a snap on each side between the headrest, and where the seatbelt goes down. That also keeps air from getting underneath the cover.....At the moment there is no engine in the car. I took the picture through the back glass...Good Luck......Mike

They are called Tenax Fasteners. Available at boating shops, music stores, ebay, etc.
All you needed was the name

Don't forget the tool. $5
