Brake Fluid Type 2001 XK8
Is it necessary to use Castrol brand brake fluid on my 2001 XK8? I've been replacing brake lines and have used up my supply of recently purchased Castrol DOT4 brake fluid. Now I find it is no longer available locally and my online source doesn't have it any more. If I can use another brand can I top off with it or do I need the same brand throughout the system?
Yes, you can switch brands of DOT 4 without any issues. Over the decades I have used Prestone, NAPA, and probably several other brands with no problem. Topping up one brand with another brand is fine as well....
ANY Super DOT 4 will work.
Jaguar changed from a green square tin to plastic 500ml bottles (orange or grey) when I worked at the dealer more than a dozen years ago.
The containers simply said 'Made in the EU for Jaguar'.
No indication that Castrol was the manufacturer.
