Default Brembo Brake Pad Advice

'06 XKR with Brembos. I have new front rotors...drilled from SNG Barratt in NH $240./pair plus shipping part #c2n3427. Now I'm looking for pads. Aside from good stopping power, my major priority is low brake dust. I drive pretty hard but I don't do track days or subject the brakes to repeated high speed stops. I am tired of having to frequently wash off the oem brake dust from my wheels....particularly the fronts. I've heard good things about EBC Red Stuff and also Akibono and Hawk. If anybody has experience with any of these...or others...I'd love to hear it. Thanks in advance for your help.

I have been using the Hawk Street Performance pads on my 2005 XKR with the red Brembo's and they have been excellent. Low generation of a light colored dust and they stop very good with no noise. The wear surface on the rotors looks even and smooth after about 8k miles. I will use them again when it is time to replace. Purchased the pads from TireRack.

Regards

Tim V.

Are you sure you don't mean $740 a pair?

The low dusting pads will always be compromised in terms of stopping ability and/or rotor life.
This is especially important as you drive hard.
Get the Jag pad or OEM equivalent.

I had Hawks on my XK8 and loved them for my driving style -- low dust, good stopping, good wear. I drive moderate, but not track or anything like that. I haven't had to put brakes on the R yet and have been keeping my eyes open on the forum. Let us know what you go with and what you think of them.

I have used Hawk HPS pads for 40K miles. They are excellent pads with low dust and great stopping power. They do take a little time to get up to temperature so if you cannot live with that try the Hawk Performance Ceramics, I have heard nothing but great things about them (in fact my Jaguar repair shop now stocks the Hawk ceramics)

That is a great price for the rotors, even if they were priced at 240.00 each!

Nope, it was $240. for the pair! Check the SNG Barratt web site. They look like they're very good quality and Barratt has a reputation as a supplier of quality parts for British cars. I suggested to Frank, the owner of the NH location that he join this site. They have tons of Jaguar parts, particularly for the older models.

Sounds like the Hawk pads are getting a lot of positive comments. I'm going to order in the next day or two, so any comments are much appreciated.

Besides the stock brake pads I also had 1 set of EBC red stuff, can't recommend at all, noticeable less stopping power and only bites when they are very warm, only positive was low brake dust.

I am now already on my 3rd set of Hawk ceramics, needless to say that I am very happy with them, very good stopping power, very low dust. The dust that appears is very light grey, so it will take time before it has buildup to a stage that you need to clean.

There are for the Brembo brake disks available but it is not known which brand these are (disturbing imho), and these are indeed very low in price. From what I have seen so far they are painted black(ish) instead of the brembo grey. Have no idea about quality, maybe they are very good.

Avos, how many miles did you get out of each set of the Hawke pads? And how was the wear on the rotors?

I have had my first set of Brembo rotors cryogenically, but don't think it is worth it. All depends on the quality of the material itself, and the Brembos are already very good by itself.

Anyway I have used the rotors until worn to slightly lower then 29mm (from 32mm new), and this was with 15k or so with original pads, another 10k with red stuff (and about 45k with the hawks (2 sets). Am now on my second set of Brembo rotors for about 40k miles (and 3rd set of hawks) and wear seems to be about the same/slightly less for the rotors (think the orignal pads/redstuff where tougher on the rotors).

I will be able to tell you in another 30k miles, but so far I can do at least 30kmiles per set of pads.

However not sure if this info helps, as all depends on drving style/habbits.

Do you know the part #s for the front & rear pads. I have a 2003 XKR with Brembo's and have only found Akebono for the front! I have read that they are great pads.

Wow - where did you get the front? I always see Akebono rears - and have not gotten the front yet. I see the front I think on autopartswarehouse or something like that - but not usable with Brembo calipers .....
