Ted--In the case of my previous Corvette I only got one decent sized paint chip on the door only once in the 14 years of ownership which was the time I let down my guard and did not bother parking in some end space. I have been lucky with the Jaguar so far as there have been no new dings that I know of since my 5+ years of ownership but I go through great pains in terms of parking (the underside of the front bumper is another story given the large dips in most of the streets in the Valley for storm drainage). The irony is that I know folks who could care less about where they park and yet they manage to avoid dings.

Is anyone aware of aftermarket windshields that do NOT have the blue tint at the top??? My windscreen is pitted from trips through several sandstorms in the CA desert, and the Safelite guy told me that the only aftermarket windshield glass has the blue tint across the top.

My car is amethyst/purple and that blue would make it look like a cheap repair from over the border.

Julie I got an aftermarket windshield installed w/o tint for around $200 from an independent glass guy off of Craigslist. He was quick and knew his stuff as I watched him like a hawk

As an owner of an independent Glass shop I would highly recommend against ever using Safelite. Especially on a car as nice as a Jaguar. Obviously I'm biased but I would always recommend using an Independent or your dealer. I've had employees that have worked for Safelite and heard the customer horror stories too many times. I would liken them to the Wal-Mart of windshields. If anyone has any questions regarding glass I would be happy to be of assistance in any way that I can.

 

I have to agree with the Safelite guy. I just checked all of my sources and the only windshield available to the aftermarket is part number FW2083GBN.

That means Foreign windshield 2083 Green tint/Blue shade/no attachments.

If you want one without the shade band it will have to come from the dealer. Assuming that isn't discontinued.

 

I guess I must have gotten the last non dealer purchased, independently installed non tinted windshield in California.....or I've been hallucinating all this time

 

Joolz is showing that she has a XJ VDP. Different car altogether. You are absolutely correct that XK's can be purchased without the shade band. In fact ironically I can't get an XK windshield with a shade band.
