I believe I ordered mine from Powerflex USA, if you go to the website and look up XKR polyurethane bushings. There is also a polyurethane kit at Motorcars LTD.

Michelin PS2 and Continental Extreme Contact (thats a joke LOL)

Skid Mark, I put Kuhmo 255/50/17 on my '98 XK8 convert. They didn't sell 245/ 50/17 when I bought them in 12/06. Still going strong after 60K miles. Something else to remember it's not only miles that effect tires it's also time. The original Pirellis only had 36K miles on them after 8 years they were so dry rotted I was afraid to drive the car. First, that shock mount looks like crap. It needs to be replaced correctly asap. I just did mine, and after weighing all the options I bought the factory oems from a dealer (about $200 each with a little haggling) and they went in easily (if you can call it that) and correctly.

Second, LOTS of tires made in the last 10 years have bad belts and bad sidewalls that cause vibration...in almost any brand. Too much China/Mexico/Korea/Japan maybe? I dunno, but something has happened to the quality. I was noticing my Dunlops (which need replacing) were made in Japan. Ooookaaaay ????

I have looked at so many choices I finally gave it a rest for awhile. Some of the Falkens actually look good, the Cooper Zeon looks interesting, Kumho seems good, and even the Hankook Ventus looks interesting...but I think they are all made in the far east. I read as many reviews as possible. Of course, the price is a big factor since I put so few miles on them anyway....don't need Pilot Sports or D-3's.

That's weird. I have the Extreme Contact DWS's and I think they are great. Granted, I don't drive much in the rain, but during the small amount of rain driving I have done I haven't noticed any tendency for them to lose traction.

Could the shimmy be related to wheel brgs or warped rotor?

I didn't see anything about those being checked. I expect they were but you never know.

Also I been using the mich pilot sports and they worked fine without any issues for about 35k/set. I was looking at the continentals extreme for my lastest set but weren't in stock and ended up with a non directional mich primacy so I gues I'll see how they do when I rotate. I know the khumos have a very aggressive tread when I had them on my mustang(yuck). Had to fight the steering over every bump and never lasted more than a season before issues. I switched to the continentals on that and proved a much better experience.

Maybe different tires just work better on different cars.

Skid;

I am sorry...this front end problem never seems to end for you....but for the tire swap.

It is very worrying as I contemplate getting the small vibration out of mine.

And I have to say your instinct was correct that is 'cocked up' as my father would have said.

But then as a Service Manager he never would have let it out the door either.

Have to say this discussion on Korean tires is enlightening to a life long Michelin guy and given the stratospheric cost of tires on this side of the pond....and the general scarcity of all season tires over here...I am going to check out the Hankook's and Kumos if they can get high enough speed ratings.

I put Falkens on the MINI S and have been very happy with them....they are not run flat....not quite as sharp turn in as the Potenza Run Flats were but the ride is about 300% quieter and more livable.

DennisW;

You made me laugh....I haven't heard that expression since my English Grandmother passed away...

cheers and good luck Skid;

jj

Default build your own shock mount???

It seems like it would be easy and very inexpensive to rebuild your existing front shock mounts with similar sized bushings found locally. Has anyone ever tried with success???

A number of members have experimented, tried aftermarket parts, and tried homemade assemblies. I didn't read any success stories. After researching all this for months I bought new oem ones from Gaudin Jag (they have better prices online), and they are doing great.

This is one job that feels so dang good to have done and on the ground.
