Default Cabin air filter

Hi all, I have a 98 xk8 and while I was working on it I thought that I would replace the cabin air filter. I went by the JTIS instructions and when I got to the place where the filter whould be there was nothing. There was nothing to hold the filter and it appeared that there never has been. What am I missing here?

you are missing the filter box... not as common as you might think, in fact, before 2007, most xk8/rs did not have them installed. You're one of many that have fallen for that little trap. A couple guys have new filters, and nobody to give them too.

I thought as much and thanks...make that at least 3 guys with filters. I tossed it into the attic over my garage...out of sight etc. I bought it before I removed the cowling, I wanted to increase $ so my order would get free shipping.

Well, you succeeded!

Should have become a member of this forum first.

Make that 4.

I believe these are the parts we need:
filter housing MJD6865AA
screws @ 2 JHG10625E
water shield MJA6558AA

I think all told it is roughly a $50-$75 investment less the filter. I have not taken the plunge yet myself.

I wonder how many times Jiffy Lube has screwed people over by charging them for a non-existent cabin air filter?

And another thing... Is your car a convertible? If so, why the heck would you need a cabin air filter. That cloth thing that goes over your head is only for use in dire emergencies, like thunderstorms and blizzards.

Test point....I was a member of the forum. I fail to see how being a member would have told me I didn't have the air box.
Sam...you once questioned "do new members come and go" well maybe smart *** remarks like yours run them off. At least all my brake calipers are the same color.

itspec, there's no insults being directed towards you, we're only trying to laugh with on this commonly missed item. I almost did it myself. We've had a few threads that deal with the air filter, that's all test point was trying to say.

Sam's just being sam, he loves the top down and trying to make you feel better. Again, no negative connotation.

If you ever want to add the filter, you now know what parts you'll need. It may be worth your time and money later on. Keep it in mind, and know the thread is here for your reference later.

Now, off the air filter and onto more pressing matters

Default Personal apology to Test Point and Reverend Sam

I would like to apologize for my response in this thread to your imput. My reactions were incorrect and ill thought. I'm afraid that your imput only fueled my fire at being stuffed by Jaguar stupidness. I hope that you will take this apology as it is. Your imputs and thoughtfull reponses to Jag owners problems are indeed useful. As Forrest Gump would say "That's all I have to say about that."

No problem itspec60! My initial reaction was to lash out, too. I joke around a lot, and I say a lot of stupid stuff just for the fun of it. That's just what I do. Sometimes people take it the wrong way because they don't really know me. I'm really just a big teddy bear. A big, sexy teddy bear.

...With a Jag.

By the way, I forget what I said before I deleted it, but I'm sure it was absolutely hilarious. At least to me it was. I'm learning that these Jag dudes are much more subdued and haughty than me. I have to tone down my wonderful sense of humor around these guys.
