Default Camshaft sensor test - RESOLVED

2000 XKR continues to show check engine light and codes P0340 and P0341.

I believe this means the sensor on the passenger side US is bad or there is a problem with the wiring.
How do you test a camshaft sensor?

Are the sensor side specific? Can they be swapped?
Which way should the pigtail point when installed?

84 Views but no replies as I write this!

Here's the possible causes for P0340 and P0341 from the Jaguar DTC listing:

The Parts Catalogue shows different P/N's for LH and RH so they can't be interchangeable:

Dirty sensor or harness fault should be checked and eliminated before moving on to sensor failure. I've no idea how to test the sensor!

Since you are getting both faults logged, one curious thing to check. Has the cam cover been off or resealed lately?? The two upper rear cover bolts are DIFFERENT from all the rest. They are not captured by the spacer like all the rest. They are shorter and of a different material because they are in very close proximity to the Cam Sensors. Standard bolts, or any of the other captured cover bolts can interfere with the Cam Sensor operation and lead to these codes.

Just something to make sure of........

Thank you Graham, it was begining to feel very lonely out here.
Apreciate the information.
So no they are not interchangeable.

JimboV8, Much appreciate the Youtube on the testing. Great adition to the forum's data bank. I need a translator for the Cockney(?) accent of our Brit cousin, but get the basics of the test.

Xrguy, Cam covers have been of recently and probably mixed up the bolts. Thank you. I will re-check.

XRGUY you hit it on the head. I did have the bolts in oposite sides. I replaced and No codes. Thank you.

Good news.

I've added 'RESOLVED' to your thread title to help others searching for help with the same issue in future.

Excellent! Even a blind man finds the light switch once in a while.

Glad you got it sorted, especially that easily.

Cheers,
