Can Bus Codes for XK8
Can anyone help with Canbus codes , ID's for the XK8 ?
I believe all XK8 cars have a canbus , I have just bought a 97 year XK8 (UK)
and would like to test out an LCD instrument cluster on it
I could not find anything with the search function

Can you expand on what the LCD is expecting? The short answer is that, besides standard OBDII codes (available over ISO9141 only, not over CAN), the Jaguar/Land Rover codes are not readily available. Also, the XK8/XKRs have 3 main data bus technologies: CAN, SCP and Serial ISO9141. The Jaguar instrument cluster has some bridging capabilities between these separate technologies, besides just doing gauges, etc. so getting the car to work without it is going to be a challenge.

The LCD cluster is a generic one which can be configured to work off canbus or direct inputs
But if the existing cluster is also translating messages then its going to be a problem removing it
It could be left in place and the lcd cluster added just for display purposes
You can get an idea of the various messages on the CAN as JTIS lists them (along with SCP). Unfortunately the pids and their associated formulae aren't shown, so any that are proprietary to Jaguar are going to be challenging to decode. The diagnostic software knows them so possibly a candidate for a fun reverse engineering project
Transmission oil temp is in there and that would be useful to know..
As fmertz says, the IC acts as an interface between the various networks so it needs to remain in situ.
