Each time the battery is disconnected, the emission monitors are cleared and must reset during a drive cycle.

If there are DTCs stored in the system, even with the monitors set, the vehicle won't pass the smog test.
Thank you for the information.

How can I determine if there any trouble codes “stored”? If there are any “stored” how do I clear them? Sorry if these are stupid questions but this is the first time I’ve had to deal with this issue of smog “monitors” not clearing.

Use a smart phone with the Torque app to connect to the vehicle's ECM/PCM with a Bluetooth interface through the OBD port. You can read the stored Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) and check the status of the monitors through the app as well.

I’ve got an iCarsoft OBD2. I’ve never looked for “stored codes”. I’ll check tomorrow. I’m guessing they clear by clicking on the “clear codes” button. Before I did the reset I was getting P1797 and P1799 indicating something wrong in the wiring in the transmission control unit to the OBD2 port. I’ve got to get under the car to see if I can find that problem.

Check where the wiring loom connects to the gearbox for corrosion or contamination. If oil gets onto the connector contacts, communication through the CAN is lost.

I'm going to see if I can get some time today to get it back up on the jack stands and get under it and track down where that cable connects to the trans and clean it up. I've been looking for a video or other info on where that connection is but can't find it. I'm thinking there isn't that much real estate under there where it can plug in so it can't be that hard to find.

I also saw a thread on here showing another location just under the port side windshield wiper cover. Apparently rain accumulated on that driver car and corroded a connection to the TCM which is supposed to be under the cover.

Yes, the drains at each corner of the windscreen must be kept clear, and the hoses remain attached lest water intrude into that compartment.
