Car Immobilised and won't start.
1999 XKR Convertible.
I keep my car in a garage currently so I don't use it that often anyway I went to the car on Sunday and it fired up straight away, had to switch it off but when I tried to restart it after a few minutes the alarm just going off with nothing happening when I turned the key but after locking/unlocking the car it started.
I drove the car to a nearby garage as its having work done the following Tuesday however the car will just not start, I've tried the following.
checked the battery which is okay.
hard reset the car.
disconneted the battery and left it over night but no luck.
Any advice would be most appreciated as could do without the cost of getting a dealer involved?
thanks in advance.

- Try the Spare Key – If you have a second key, test whether it starts the car. A worn or faulty key transponder could be the issue.
- Reset the Alarm/Immobilizer – Lock and unlock the car several times using the key fob. Try holding the unlock button for a few seconds before turning the key in the ignition.
- Check the Fuses – Specifically, inspect the fuse box under the hood and in the passenger compartment. A faulty fuse related to the ignition or security system could be preventing the car from starting.
- Check the Starter Relay – Swap the starter relay with another relay of the same type in the fuse box to see if that resolves the issue.
- Bypass the Immobilizer (Temporarily) – Some owners have had luck disconnecting the battery, holding the positive and negative cables together for 30 seconds, then reconnecting. This can sometimes reset the immobilizer.
- Listen for the Fuel Pump – When you turn the key to the “on” position, listen for a brief hum from the fuel pump. If you don’t hear it, it could be a fuel system issue instead of an immobilizer problem.
- Check the Gear Selector (if automatic) – Ensure the car is fully in "Park" or try starting it in "Neutral" instead.
Just to update this thread, I went to see the car today and followed 2500DollarXKR advice and it turns out the starter relay has issues so once I swapped this out the Jag fired up.
Thanks for the advice 2500DollarXKR
