Default Car ran out of oil!?

2003 4.2 XKR
I just happen to check my oil levels today on the oil dip stick and it was completely dry! Added six quarts of oil before starting the car.

Where the heck did all the oil go? Last couple days I would get an occasional “low oil pressure” warning when making hard turns. So parked it for several days. No oil on the ground but did spot signs of an oil leak by the starter motor.
Attached are some pictures.

Does anyone have any clue where it could be leaking from?

168K miles on car and it’s been about 5K miles since last oil change.

Signs of oil leak

Th instant that oil light comes on it should have been a crash stop to the kerb.
Sounds like the 2 quarts left saved you.
Where did the oil go? How many years since you checked it ? It either burnt it or leaked it

I agree I should’ve stopped but the light was intermittent and would pop for about two seconds then go back to normal. Not exactly sure when the last time I checked the dip stick but let’s say a year ago.

I’m just dumbfounded because I do not have any oil on the ground.

From what I’m reading in the archives I should start by cleaning the pcv breather. Not sure if it a rear main seal?

I actually did check the water at the same time. Had to top it off but wasn’t too concerned. The missing oil has me shooked though

LOL folks

Stran, you were lucky this time. Buy a lottery ticket

Odd as it looks more like a drip than a serious leak, but then again, if most of the oil had already gone...

Had oil changed on my 1999 last summer and the next day my rear main oil seal blew out. At first I thought the oil filter wasn’t tighten down, but on a hoist could see the oil had come out of the back of the engine. Had rear main seal replaced, but still worry about high engine pressure blowing it out again.

There is a pressure relief valve in the pump which opens when the oil pressure reaches what the makers feel is "normal".
Looking at the diagram its items 2/3/4/5.
Not sure if the bolt 5 is in the sump ,accessible when you take the pan off or external.
Second photo seems to say its external , the bottom line being the sump gasket but if you can get to the bolt in the tube bit sticking up is any ones guess.
If it gets blocked the the surplus oil cannot drain off..3 is a spring
