Default Car seems to sway when turning, 2003 XKR

Hi Guys,

Hope everyone is gearing up for a great weekend! Just wanted to get some advice on what seems like a lateral shift in the vehicle when turning hard or swerving. Barring this, the suspension seems great on my new 2003 XKR but on the highway at fairly high speeds I felt that it was a little loose side to side. When I got off, I swerved back and forth and sure enough it felt like there was a lateral shift. Has anyone experienced this? Any ideas on what to look at first? My first thoughts were perhaps the sway bars were not secured or something tied to the links.

Thanks!

Corey

I would start with tyre pressures, then stabilizer bar mounting and associated links and all suspension joints and mountings.
If it's as bad as you describe something obvious should jump out at you as out of place.

The sway bar bracket rubber and the end link rubber can “blow out” when it gets old. Get the front end of the car up on ramps or jack stands and take a look. Easy to see and not extremely hard to replace.

TECHNICALLY these cars do NOT have a SWAY BAR. (panhard rod)
They have ANTI-ROLL BARS or STABILIZER BARS.

The SWAY will not be affected by stabilizer bars.

Sway is SIDE-to-SIDE movement. (horizontal)
ROLL is the rotational movement along the longitudinal axis.

The front and rear stabilizer bars are not involved in SWAY or SIDE-to-SIDE suspension movement.

The large/solid subframes and suspension cages prevent most sway so look for loose suspension components.

Thanks all for the input. Going to have to look at the bushes or for loose suspension components. In my experience, there has always been a rattle or clunk when something was loose or amiss in the suspension and that really is not the case with this car. It drives like a dream, aside from the body wanting to roll off the chassis (sarcastic exaggeration).

thank you for the CAPITAL LETTERS. I would not have been able read it otherwise.

whatever you want to call the side to side bars is fine with me. Just quit shouting for Pete’s sake. I can hear and read just fine in acceptable lower case letters.

my bushings in the side-to-side bar were shot . Replacing them fixed the excessive body movement when turning.

thank you for being so patient with the uninformed. It must get very tedious being superior. You have my deepest sympathies.

Being the smartest person in the room is always great. Getting in someone’s face to remind them of that, not so great.

I find your comments offensive.
