Question Car shutsdown completely for 20 minutes

Parked my 2000XK8 in a shopping Centre and locked it. On return, the car unlocked OK and I opened the drivers door, but then the car shut down completely with just 2 dim red lights on gauges showing and some faint beeping sounds. Tried to lock unlock using remote to no avail. Called roadside assistance and after 20 minutes whilst waiting I accessed the boot by using the key and commenced removing items from boot . everything then recovered and car systems acted as per normal. Checked battery terminals all OK Have driven car for over 4 hours since with no further issues . Battery is less than 6 months old

Do you keep the car on a battery tender when it’s not being used, overnight or longer ? Doing so will banish many electrical gremlins, which can plague you, even with new batteries.

what is your battery voltage when the car has been sitting overnight , and without being started ?

it needs to be 12.6v or higher. Anything less is going to be a problem.

The high power protection module is behind the spare wheel in the boot - maybe there is a loose connection that needs tightening.

Yup - that's where I'd start too.

I recently had an odd similar issue on another car, would start up no problem at times and then dead the next day. Turned out to be a battery connection that was a bit corroded and the clamp not very tight.

Do these cars have a (removed) transit relay? If so, could it be the remaining wiring?

Car is used about 2 times a month and I haven't used a trickle charger ( battery tender) on it as I have been re-charging the battery every 2-3 weeks . Car was left for 2 days after a 3 hour run and battery voltage was 12,4V. Have recharged battery and noticed that battery voltage has dropped from 13.1V ( fully charged) to 12.66 after 3 days. Think I will invest in a trickle charger.
