Default CD Changer

The changer in my 06 does not work and I have the E 01 code. It looks like there is a little red led next to the button, but it's not lit.

I have checked the electrical guide and owners manual but didn't see a fuse for the changer, am I wrong about that being a led, or is there a fuse somewhere?

Okay, it was a tiny screw head, not led. When I push the button I can hear a click, but it doesn't open, even when I run various thin implements around the case.

When you push the release button do you hear any mechanical noise at all as if it is trying to open?

I installed a CD in my wife's '04 XJ8 and the CD cartridge that came with it had a jammed mechanism that wouldn't let it eject the cartridge. I had to open the case and very carefully maneuver the CD's so they'd clear and allow the cartridge to eject. Evidently the Jag it had been in ended its life in an accident and the shock caused the CD player to jam.

On another tack there's a specific cable that connects the CD player to the relevant network. Comes from the back of the CD player and runs under the a trunk carpeting for maybe about 2' +/- where it connects to the network cable. Look for a disconnect or broken wire.

Is your car outside in the cold weather? The CD changer in my wife's 2006 XK8 does not like the cold winter months and can sometimes refuse to operate until it warms up outside. We were down to 5 degrees overnight. No way her CD player would function in this weather even if she decided to drive the car today and warm it up (which she will not do - weather like this is what our Subaru lives for)....

If you haven't, make sure the battery is fully charged. I had all sorts of weird symptoms with the changer with a low battery.
