I'm trying to diagnose rain water getting into my passenger side footwell. The forums have given me plenty of routes that I have still to check, but one thing I came across today was the center drain below the windshield.
I know about the two corner windshield drains with their little rubber funnels, but I can't find much info on the center drain. When I poured water into the center grill I saw the water flow into the engine bay and sort of splash all over the bulkhead. Should it be contained as it passes on down?
In the diagram below, are parts 7 and 11 supposed to pipe water down and out the bottom, or at least dump it on top of the transmission?
I believe the water getting into my passenger footwell is coming from the middle of the car, so I'm wondering if some piping is dislodged, funneling rain water to coat the firewall where it's finding a passage through to the passenger compartment.
I think you've eliminated the plenum drains as the source.
If the Condensate Drain Tubes (see item 5) on the AC unit become blocked or detached, the water which would normally exit beneath the vehicle on either side of the transmission enters the passenger compartment instead.
As I recall, you can get to these behind the carpet on the XK8.
As it rarely rains in the desert of Bahrain, I don't have any experience of your problem. But here are links to a couple of old threads of other Forum members with similar problems and their solutions.
