Default Changing Hoses on a 2001 xk8 convertible

Does anyone know how many hours of labor is reasonable for changing the hoses on a 2001 xk8?

Thanks

I do not recall the count on the coolant hoses but I must ask why are you changing them and that might give us what we need to help. This post might help for the thermostat Thermostat Housing Replacement

Gus,

The dealer replaced them, said that they needed to be replaced. I haven't worked on a car in a log time and assumed they "might" be honest. I am beginning to question them for sure.

In most cases they are trying to help but a few times might be questionable. If you are concerned you should ask why and if it is not too late you should see the hoses that were replaced and see for yourself. Hoses can fail due to age or time on the motors clock, not knowing either one it would be hard to say from my chair. Think of it this way you no longer need to be concerned. All in all they are at times hard to get to all of them..

Thanks Gus,

It just seemed that almost 6 hours labor was a bit much

The heater and radiator hoses R&R on AllData gives 8 hrs. 2 for radiator and 6 for heater

I think 6 for the heater hose is a bit much, but I didn't take the throttle body off, which makes it a TON easier, but also ups the labor involved. My fumbling in the garage took about 4-5 hours for the octopus (the two heater hoses) due to the 4 or so connections on its tentacles.

I wander if you can challenge the labor hours? At times they are a bit inflated and unreasonable.

Guys,

Thanks a lot for the input. I didn't realize this was as intense a job as you verify. At $132/hr plus parts it is certainly not an inexpensive repair. I love the look of the car, but the cost to maintain it is extraordinary. Reminds me of an 80's American Car.

I'm spoiled with my 2009 BMW 535ix. No maintenance and nothing seems to break down. Of course it is 2 years old with 40k mi. My 2006 RX400h also seems to have less issues with 49K mi.

That extra 4 years makes a big differences with hoses and belts and other rubber based stuff. Give your BMW and RX400 time, they'll catch up with the maintainence costs.

The Bimmer is a 3 year lease with maintenance included - won't have that issue. The Lexus is chugging along quite well. I don't think it will last 10 years since that has become my primary drive, and I put on 15k since August. At that rate I'll be at 200k within 6 years and I don't know if the Hybrid will last that long.

Until I bought the Lexus and the Jag I hadn't owned a car since 87. Three years lease, over and out. I forgot how expensive maintenance can be as cars get older.
