coder reader diagnostics what to buy??

Hi I am looking to buy and XJ8,I wounder what you guys would recomend for reading codes for the Do It Yourself mechanic?
Are there any PC programs you can buy, I presently have an Audi and run VAGCOM from my pc. Is there anything like this for the xj8? Is is the same communication as a ford?

I woulds like to be able to read codes and reset thisng like abs and service lights and take live reading from sensors it possible.

Any experiance or recomendations appreciated.

You neglected to say what year XJ8 you are looking to buy.

sorry factory jaguar tech,

i have looked at 1998 or 1999 but should budget stretch i could end up with a 2000.

The ability to maintain the car will effect what I chose

Buy what you can afford and have a couple thousand saved for repairs.
If you budget allows, definitly go for 2000 or newer as no nikasil in block.
Much better engine.
