Default Convertable Pillars and Windshield Headliner replacement

Well the headliner on my 2001 xkr vert was dirty but in relatively good shape. The a pillars and the upper windsheild portion not so much. In the theme of going all black I bought a synthetic ultra-black suede like material. It doesnt stretch as well as typical headliner material but the overall result was awsome. I also dyed teh grey platic light console and microphone trim along with the sun visor peices as well...Didnt quite get to the visors themselves yet. Ill complete that saturday and post some more photos.

Honestly I wasnt impressed with the look of the material till I installed it Also the pictures dont quite do it justice. Its very black and looks great with the black interior. Also the plastic dyed peices really arent shiney but look shiney in photo. More of a satin finish

Opinions?(better than dirty sagging grey no?)

I was a bit concerned dying the plastic and making it look extrememly cheap. But it didnt really come out bad. I could have redone it in grey standardmaterial but I wanted that alcantra (sp.) look and well..BLACK@.

Nice work, I'm not thrilled with the grey liners used and the black definitely matches well. Did you to the convertible liner yet? Where did you get your material?

Very nice work.

That cover in the middle of the passenger side pillar needs to change color though. That's a real eye catcher right now and makes it pretty obvious that something has been changed.

Please take lots of pics when you do the visors. Very interested in seeing how that goes.

Yah thats the silver speaker grill Its stainless and I didnt spray it. I can always go back and do that. Everyone notices it now and I have to explain what it is. I just completed one visor. Ill get some photos up tomorrow . I took it all apart and sprayed each componant individually. Three issues here

1) The part that clips in on teh visor itself to the window head. There is no way the spray dye will stay adhered there.

2)ABS sticker on visor material. I kind of fudged it when first removing by getting the sticker (which is like rubber) mixed in with the material in one area. You dont really see it but I know its there and if you were to pull it off and look youde see it to.

3) ABS sticker on flip up vanity mirror. Well I decieded to dye over it than to attempt removal and make a mess. Well you can tell it was dyed. Dont like that at all. I may actually get reproduction stickers and add them.

Oh..Wait 4 issues!...I am going to look into a liqued dye rather than a spray on for the rest of the headliner. The spray die ruins the smooth feel of the material. Not that anyone should be feeling up your headliner....But they will if its suede!

The material. Came from Korea and took awhile

The pillars are easy butthe center peice will have you cursing a bit for sure

As for the visors ill do both of these the same but may get another set to experiment with as far as a dye is concerned. Plastic peices came out awsome

I got tired of staring at those stickers and was able to remove them with a light dose of Goo Gone. Be careful here as too much is not a good idea. I followed this up with a fabric cleaner (whatever SWMBO had in the closet) and it came off well enough you cannot tell it was ever there.

I would wait until your paint is really, really dry before trying this method.

Well for the other visor I used tape..I put on the rubberized stickers on the fabric and the tape(blue painters) removed them asap. I then used a bit of that goo remover to get fabric cleaned of any residuale glue. NOW I would highly reccomend against using paint thinner on the platics vanity mirrors as it takes the sticker off, the paint below and will eat into the textured finish. lesson learned there:O) But both visors are done and looking decent. Cleaned the headliner with Tuffstuff and now decieding how I want to dye that.
