Default convertible top hose repair kit

Hi looking for feedback, especially the years 2000 to 2003 which I think had worse hoses than the earlier models. I just had the top lock hoses replaced with the dealer supplied repair kit and my mechanic really did not want to do it and I understand why. The dealer was reluctant to sell the kit and the mechanic said don't use the top unless you have to before selling the car!

I would appreciate hearing from anyone that's had this repair done and how long ago. Also I would like to hear from anyone that had it done and then had issues like other parts of the system leaking fluid due to the increased strain on the older hoses.

Thanks in advance,
Alan

The repair kit will fail at the splice in fairly short order because the hoses are degraded. It could be immediate to probably a few months. That is why it has been discontinued. A proper repair involves replacing the faulty hoses.

The hose splice kit was supplied by Jaguar to reduce the huge expense of replacing hundreds, if not thousands of failed hoses under warranty.

It did not work.

The splice reliability failed leading to complete hose replacement after the expense of the splice.

The splice kits were withdrawn and disappeared into history. If you are knowingly buying into a car with a splice kit installed be prepared to replace the entire hoses at some near term point.

I actually repaired the hoses with the repair kit in my '00 XK8 but 'fortunately' the car was totaled by a guy in a 25 year old Jeep before it failed again.
