Default Convertible top not sequencing correctly?

I think the top on my 'New'(to me) 2006 XK8 is not sequencing correctly. When I lower the top, I hold the switch in the down position until the top is fully down. Then to get the windows to lower I have to move to the "Up" side of the switch. Holding it down for a few seconds allows the windows to lower(front and back). Now I am off to enjoy my baby.
If this the way the convertible is supposed to work?

Do not have this problem with my F-Type Coupe.

On my 2004 pressing the "down" on the switch has never lowered the front windows, only the back ones. Then the top unlatches and drops.

Pressing the "up" will raise the top, latch it, finally raising back then front windows.

Whether that is the correct way I do not know - but it works for me and is consistent.

It is interesting that the final step in closing (#8) covers raising of the back windows but does not mention the raising of the fronts. Makes me wonder if that was added after the '99 pub date of the bulletin.

Who else gets front windows raised at end of top closing?

I know that they will close when using the key in the door to operate the roof closed.

That's how my 98 works, too. Using the interior switch, only the back windows close on putting the top up. Using the key, everything goes up.

Well, like @Gus's document mentions, the front windows are stepped down as needed during opening and closing. I don't think that's what the original poster was referring to, though.

My '97 does not lower the front windows when lowering the top. Maybe Sam found a hidden feature here in pressing the up button right after to lower the front windows.

Me, I wouldn't want the top down button to automatically lower the front windows. Sometimes it's nice to keep those up, and if I do want them down I can lower them myself!

I don't think I have ever tried the key method. I will have to try that sometime.

Odd that the bulletin says "operate top while engine running" yet there is a key in door method too.

The roof can be operated on just the battery it is that Jaguar suggests you do it with the engine running as a safe mode due to the load it puts on the battery. If your battery is old and on the edge the roof operation could cause you a few issues. Under normal conditions it is ok to operate it without the engine running.

I once had the back windows raise first. I was connected to a low battery charge. Never happened again. That was the 1st thing I thought of when you asked Sam.

No, battery seems strong. Have the engine running when raising/lowering the top. I expected the operation to be quite a drain on the battery if the engine was not running.

Been lucky, I guess. No battery issues (yet) putting the top up or down using just the key. I keep mine on a battery tender when it isn't being used.

Not really. We have been selling our remote control for the top using the keyfob since 2012. As long as your battery is in decent shape there are no issues with this. Each top operation only uses about 1/3 of 1% of the energy in the battery.
