Default Convertible top squeaking

Hello all, Im loving my 05 XKR, but i have noticed that when the top is closed, when I go over some bumps or turn on an incline, I hear a loud squeak coming from the top (sounds like it's coming from the latch area). It almost sounds like a creaking groaning noise. Any idea what this could be?
Thanks!

Chris

Gosh there are so many rubber connections i would suspe t that first. I use a rubber conditioner product from zymol, but as i recall glycerin works just fine. Cheaper and readilly available. Apply to rubber seals and see.

Or silicone spray. And some stress sounds are inevitable - heck, they're convertibles, old ones at that.

I would try the spray but if it continues I would look at the header to see if all the bolts and screws are tight. If the header was taken down it may have come loose.

Clean it well first, then apply silicone to the rubber liberally. Let it dry overnight with the top down. The silicone will swell up and help stop the noise (if that's what is causing it.)

I believe the latch can be adjusted if it is loose. Search the forum for the how-to.

However, as stated in the quote, they are convertibles. Some top & cowl shake is inevitable.

Thanks Gus.

I wasn't sure, so sorry if I lead anyone down the wrong path.

I had a horrible squeak from the windshield area on my 01 XKR. Being a lifelong mechanic I tried every trick I knew.and would sometimes get temporary relief. Couldn't pinpoint the location. Finally put plastic spacers under the windshield moldings where they were touching the glass. Problem solved. I was about ready to burn the car as it squeaked almost continually on rough surfaces. Tom.
