Default Convertible top wear

I've noticed that on both sides of my convertible top there is a scuff that, at first glance, looks like a cut. It is only about 2 inches long, about halfway up the side but it is on the same place on both sides.

I assume it's normal wear but I don't want it to turn into a tear. Is there any product or protectant that will help preserve the canvas at wear points like I've described?

Many of us like Sunbrella's 303 protectant for its water-shedding characteristics. Whether it can help mitigate surface fabric wear as well is certainly arguable. But it's probably better than doing nothing at all....

Mine has the same scuffs, it's a wear point but so far the top is holding up well.
