Default Convertible windows stay open slightly when closing the doors.

Each time I open either door, that individual window drops an inch. Evidently there is a switch that's designed to close the window after the door closes like on my ex Mustang convertible. I spent the evening searching this forum but did not find any info on this problem. Is it a switch or is the door control module malfunctioning?

Anyone had this problem or can suggest a fix?

It's a '98 convertible XK8.

First thing to try is to reset the window limits. First with the ignition switch in the 2 position and sitting in the car with the doors closed first run the window all the way down and keep holding the switch until you hear a slight click. Then run the window up and do the same thing. Repeat for the other door.

Wow, I did that and it worked!!!~ Thanks a lot, you saved me a lot of time on what was to me a big problem. Explaining to my wife that something was wrong with her birthday present was the big problem. I've owned the car for six days now and have spent $$$$.$$ on wheels, tires, parts, M-1 oil, etc. Phew.

It's a sweet car and worth it.

I was having the same problem. I reset limits and continued to have the issue sporadically but with more and more frequency. I had a passenger in and saw the issue on that side as well. To make the problem worse, the windows started erratically not moving when putting the top up and down. I began to suspect that the battery was going bad and not providing the correct voltage or sufficient current - fortunately though, no problems with starting the car. Finally the CD player started getting stuck with an E-01 code and the carriage would get stuck with a CD unwilling to retract.

I replaced the battery with a new one, and every single one of the above mentioned problems is now fixed.

Now the only problem is that since the new battery went in, there is a high-low-high-low tone every time I turn on the ignition. At first I thought this was a matter of some presets being lost with the battery swap out, but the tone is still there a few days later. Any thoughts?

This sounds exactly like an experience I had when I replaced the battery in a 1993 Miata, and my aftermarket Sony radio/CD unit began making tone signals, apparently to remind me that the power switch for the radio was still on. If your radio is not OEM, check its features in the manual provided with it.
