Default Coolant light XK8 2005

Coolant light is on but not overheating. Do I just top off with orange coolant?

Welcome to the forum studio,

I've moved your question from X308 to XK8/XKR forum. This is the place to post questions about your model.

If the coolant is low, top it up with orange OAT coolant. Often the light is set by a faulty (sticking) level sensor in the Expansion Tank.

Graham
I recently had the problem of a sticking level sensor and had the message 'coolant level low' come up, even when it was full to the top (it was somewhat intermittent). I may be wrong, but I don't recall seeing any warning lights. Studio: did you see any such messages?

Also, are you sure you are not overheating? The temperature gauge does not work as such, and will remain in the middle of the range until you are very hot - and then it might be too late to do anything.

The coolant level sensor will give a coolant low message on the instrument cluster screen.
+1 on they do stick and moving it up and down gently will free it up. If you open the reservoir and it is low add coolant that matches what you have in the system.
If it continues to loose coolant you will need to do a pressure test and find the leak.
