Default Cooling / Fan temperature points

For the few newer members that haven’t seen the wonderful resource of jag repair.com , here is sample of the kind of treasures one can access there. And just in time for summer driving :

These numbers are relevant to the 4.0 engines. Don’t know if they apply to the 4.2’s etc.

I was wondering, and worrying, about my radiator fans. Whether they were turning on and the right times, or running after shutdown properly, etc. This document explains the conditions when they cycle on and off. And under what conditions they will activate when the engine is shut off, and for how long as well.

the Autool X60 is a great product for monitoring the coolant temp, as well as many other engine data points. Amazon has them.

I also just discovered the necessity of cleaning between the A/T cooler and the radiator. The gap between the two is perfect for storing tumble weeds, mummified bugs and dirt in general. A quick remove of the plastic cover that covers the radiator / A/T cooler and the whole grimy collection is revealed. All of the offending garbage was super easy to flush out with a garden hose equipped with a variable nozzle

My only other summertime tip would be to mention the WaterWetter product. Countless times I’ve seen it reduce coolant temperatures by 5 to 15 degrees. May not sound like much, but it could
be the difference between smooth sailing and overheating.

I actually found that attachment when searching in this forum, something along the lines of “radiator fan temperature” or something about the subject of coolant temperature. Since jag repair dot com was the header I’m assuming that was the intermediate source for the information, which looks like it came from the shop manual originally.
