Default Cracked Plastic On Gear Selector Indicator

Good Morning,

This is the black plastic indicating the gear designations. Mine was cracked and there is a chunk missing. Can the top plastic piece be replaced or do I need the entire unit ?

Thank you,

Rob

Attached is a copy of the parts blow up. Pc 3 looks like an assembly. You don't indicate what model /year your vehicle is so it's difficult to track the exact part number. Up to a certain VIN number they are no longer available and you will have to find a good used one.

My apologies. It's a 2002 XKR. Thank you for the link I will take a look.

That is a pricey little piece if it's available in your vin range. Below is a link to an alternative.

Yes, it can be replaced, and there's a better option than buying the uber expensive plastic shifter assembly. You could also buy this aluminum option which is cheaper and lasts longer. I personally think it looks better. I already installed one on mine.

Here's for the six speed:

And here's for the five speed:

on the aluminum cover, the indicators for shifter position, are they cut through so that the illumination of the selector position still shines through?

Yes, the plastic piece shows up occasionally on eBay, and the 5-speed version is more plentiful than the 6. That's the route I chose to go - I like to keep my car as original as possible. If Mr. Lawson wanted it to have a chromed J-gate plate he would have put one there.
Now I just have to research how to install it.

"Original as possible" is the right way, if you need a new rubber gasket: https://www.jaguarclassicparts.com/uk/part/LNC6197AA

And for installation: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...te-trim-92344/

I don't even know - I'll have to check that. And the link says "This is part 0 on the illustration". There is no part 0 shown.

Yes, no illustration, it is the rubber (gasket) which is often worn.

Yes they are cut through. Also, I believe the seller was toying with the idea of making black anodized versions of the aluminum part. Maybe you could ask him about it.

You need to remove the entire piece and take it apart (carefully). Hardest part is disconnecting the jgate (plug on the left side about 5" away, not on gate assembly). Took me an hour to uninstall (remove center console, etc..).
