Crankshaft Pulley - How should it feel?
Thanks for looking. Yesterday I posted a thread about my car overheating and trying to determine if the belt was the cause. As per your excellent advice I removed the belt and turned each pulley by hand.
Something just occurred to me, I should have asked yesterday. The crankshaft pulley is not what I expected. It can be turned freely with no resistance and there is a spring feel to it in that it can be moved backwards towards the engine block a small amount against what feels like spring tension.
I wanted to check and verify that this is normal.
Thanks,
John

This is not normal. It sounds as if your crankshaft pulley broke loose. See this post on the issue: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...-remove-89379/ by Walt (may he RIP).
