Default Cruise control

When I take a trip, my cruise control works perfectly for 1 1/2 to 2 hours, then it just quits, including the little red light on the cruise button going out. Any suggestions/ideas on why this occurs? 97 XK8 convertible, LHD, 4.0 non-supercharged. Thanks.

On the early car, the cruise control is vacuum-based, I believe. I'd say double check the vacuum line to that big actuator by the throttle body. Folks periodically find that line popped or otherwise not in compliance with the design. I believe there is a T fitting which means you need to check all the lines involved. Of course, with time, you might want to just replace it.

Separately, you might want to check the actuator itself for leaks. Apply some vacuum and see if it holds a while.

Best of luck, keep us posted.
