Default Cup holder suggestions

It’s been a long time since I had a car without a cup holder so I’m not sure how I will survive.

My 2001 XK8 coupe doesn’t have one built in to the armrest and the storage under the armrest isn’t deep enough to keep a cup there.

has anyone found a solution?

does the armrest from later cars fit?

otherwise I might have to make a new custom armrest pad with a cup holder built in.

thanks

Even my sit-on lawnmower has one - although it's positioned so that there's no risk of the operator getting any contents deposited in his/her lap, and there are zero moving parts...

Given Jaguar's terminally useless engineering masterpiece, I would treat its absence as a bonus

There are some other ideas in this thread of darbysan's:

I used to keep a console lid without cupholder and fit it to my XK8's during my ownership - refitting the original cupholder lid when I came to sell the vehicle.

The plain lid which came from from my X300 was subsequently fitted to my 2001 and 2005 XK8's. The lid is a straight swap but there is a difference in the catch design of the two types. One has a plastic "tongue" and the other is magnetic. They are interchangeable and both fix to the console with two setscrews. You would also need this complete catch assembly. Complete because they have different shaped plastic mounting frames.

My XKR cup holder armrest came with the "now standard" broken hinge assembly.
i heated a 5mm washer on the stove with some long nose pliers and melted it into plastic, then rebuilt the hinge with JB weld.
seems to work ok.
In the UK there's an xk8 youtuber who offers an alternative.

Nice, Can you still use the ashtray? I'm an old puffer and use it.

I like that.
I was looking at mine yesterday thinking that I could make something that sits over the top of the ash tray with a cup holder hanging down either side of the console.
I need two cups because my daughter often comes with me for a cruise. She’s the design expert and wants leather although I would have liked walnut.
